Secondary Currents with Scour Hole at Grade Control Structures

چکیده

Most studies on local scouring at grade control structures have principally focused the analysis of primary flow field, predicting equilibrium scour depth. Despite numerous processes, secondary currents were not often considered. Based comprehensive measurements velocities in clear water scours downstream a structure channel with non-cohesive sediments, this study, we attempted to investigate generation and turbulence properties across hole condition. The velocity distributions through cross-sectional planes location maximum depth clearly show development current cells. form sort helical-like motion, occurring both halves cross-section an axisymmetric fashion. A detailed intensities Reynolds shear stresses was carried out compared previous studies. results highlight considerable spatial heterogeneities turbulence. anisotropy term normal dominates stress, giving impression its crucial role generating motion hole. shows values near mouth bed, caused, respectively, by sediment ridge formation, which play fundamental roles maintaining enhancing motion.

Scour Downstream of Grade-control Structures

A theoretical investigation of local scour downstream of grade-control structures based on two-dimensional jet diffusion and particle stability is experimentally verified. Turbulent jet diffusion reduces fluid velocity near the bed particles and equilibrium scour is obtained when noncohesive bed particles cannot be removed from the scour hole. Equilibrium scour depth is written as a function of...

estimation of scour depth downstream of grade-control structures

grade control structures are hydraulic structures used to stabilize a river bed. scour downstream of this structure is the main cause of its failure. studies have developed numerous empirical relations for scour depth prediction that designers must choose between to decide the most effective equation for a specific application. this study tested the condition of submerged jets over beds of sedi...

Anfis-based Approach to Scour Prediction at the Grade Control Structures

An assessment of maximum scour depth downstream of grade control structure is essential for its proper planning, design and management. Most of the scour depth prediction formulae available in the literature have been developed based on the analysis of the laboratory/field data using the statistical method such as the regression method (RM). The alternative recent approaches such as artificial ...

Control of Scour Around the Piles with Using Cable and Collar at the River

In this study, in order to examine the joint of the cable and the collar in control of scour around the bridge piles, experiments were carried out in a rectangular plexiglass flume as a direct path. The experiments were carried out using three different cable diameters, three different thread angles and three rounds of the cable threaded at a steady current in clear water. The results of this s...

Scour Caused by Three-Dimensional Submerged Square Wall Jet: Sand Deposition in Scour Hole and Ridge

Laboratory tests were carried out to assess the local scour by three-dimensional wall jets from a square crosssection nozzle. To this end, three different tailwater depths were used and the jet expansion ratio was held greater than ten. Velocity measurements were conducted using a one component laser Doppler anemometer. The jet exit Reynolds number was maintained to 1x10 and this value can be c...
